Join Drew L. Dandelion on a Magical Journey of Courage and Creativity!

Drew L. Dandelion, a cheerful flower with big dreams and a heart full of stories, struggles to find the right words to share his ideas. When Drew discovers a glowing magic pencil in the enchanting forest, he embarks on a transformative journey of creativity and self-expression. With the encouragement of his wise and kind friends—Lily the enthusiastic ladybug, Sammy the playful salmon, and Oliver the thoughtful owl—Drew learns that everyone has their own way of telling a story.

Anne and Robin's Publishing Journey

The Idea

Anne Laurie, PhD is the President and Co-Founder of TRICOAST Education, developer of the Curriculum-Based Dynamic Assessment (CBDA). Their mission is to “ensure children from all backgrounds receive appropriate and timely language support services by providing educational practitioners with targeted and validated resources.”

As part of their mission, TRICOAST Education set out to plan, write, and publish the first in a series of children’s books and authentically highlight the challenges and strategies that can benefit a child with a Developmental Language Disorder. The catch? They only had a few months to bring their book from initial idea and rough draft to a fully published and available book.

Armed with drive, knowledge, and expertise, but unsure of how to bring a children’s book to life, Anne sought the support of TRICOAST’s Design and Marketing Specialist, Robin Grant and Made Live‘s co-founder, publishing coach, and former Speech-Language Pathologist Karen Richard to bring their first book to life.

The Challenge

Anne and Robin, the author and illustrator duo, needed to write, illustrate, and publish their first children’s book within a tight three-month deadline.

The Solution

The duo met with their publishing coach for personalized feedback and workshopping sessions throughout January and February.

The Results

Drew and the Magic Pencil transitioned from a book idea and rough first draft to being published and available for purchase in under 90 days!

Anne and Robin met with their publishing coach, Karen, for feedback and direction on their first draft, book layout, and early illustrations. Karen also helped strategize the story’s intent to ensure the book was purposeful for an audience of educators and Speech-Language Pathologist for use in class or therapy sessions and that the main character was representative of a child with DLD.
